The top TEN frequently asked questions that I get about bulletin boards…
When printing my classroom decor, do you suggest laminating?
I don’t think there is a right or wrong way to answer this. It depends on what you are hanging and how long you want your decor to last. Laminating will keep your decor intact for several years, but if you only need it for a quick time and it’s out of reach of little hands, printing on printer paper will work great! Our decor prints on regular printer paper and the color looks fantastic. It also looks wonderful printed on cardstock as well. If you do decide to laminate, you can always spray with a matte clear enamel spray to get rid of glare.
Can you give me some tips on how to layer 3 borders?
Yes! We LOVE using the double or the triple border combo when creating a bulletin board. My best advice is to start with the outermost border first. Complete this border all the way around and work inward. When you are pairing them, there truly is no right or wrong way. I love mixing patterns with textures and solids. Whatever makes you happy!
How do you stick cut-outs on paper fans, and how do you place them on a board?
We use the all mighty Mavalus Tape, and reinforce with hot glue when neccessary!
I need some tips on covering my classroom door. Help!
We have several door decor sets that make it super easy to add some purposeful flair to your classroom door. One of our Hey, Teach! Marketplace sellers (Joey Udovich) makes amazing door decor as well that is printable and easy to put together. When we cover classroom doors, we cover the door with fadeless paper first. Then we frame the door and any tough spots like around the door handle with borders. After that, we add cut-outs and any cute quotes we want the students to see upon entering the classroom everyday. As an alternative, a super simple way to dress up a door is to add one of our Door Toppers!
Is there a right way to match and layer borders?
I usually try and bring in one pattern, one textured border, and one solid border. That’s my starting point, but there are no rules and whatever makes your teacher heart happy!
How many Schoolgirl Style borders come in one package?
One package of borders comes with 12 durable strips. Each strip is 3 feet by 3 inches, for a total of 36 feet of border.
How do you set up a bulletin board in a spot that doesn’t have one?
There are a few options! In the past, we have taken our fadeless paper and Mavalus taped/stapled/hot glued it to whatever surface we need to add a bulletin board to. That is our starting point. We will border the seamless paper and then whatever classroom decor or educational resources from there. Or! Another great thing we found that works well is adding a foamcore board to the wall and bordering that out to create a space. It’s lightweight and works great! Lastly, you can simply take our borders and border out an area on a wall if you need to give a specific classroom resource it’s own space.
What are some neutral borders that pair well together?
Can you show me an example of a bulletin board that touches the ceiling?
I need help with corners!
Our amazing stylist Chad has created a video on how to get the perfect corner on your bulletin boards. If corners on a bulletin board are not your thing, I love to put a fan and/or cut-out there to hide the corner as an option as well.

Bulletin Board Inspiration for your Classroom
Bulletin boards in a classroom serve as versatile and valuable tools for teachers. Here are eight ways they can be beneficial:
- Visual Aid: Bulletin boards provide a visual aid that can reinforce the current lesson or unit. Teachers can display diagrams, charts, maps, and other visuals to help students better understand and remember the material.
- Organizational Tool: Bulletin boards can be used to organize and display important information such as class schedules, assignments, and upcoming events. This helps both the teacher and students stay on track and be aware of what’s coming up.
- Student Engagement: Teachers can involve students in creating and updating the bulletin board, which fosters a sense of ownership and engagement in the classroom. Students can contribute artwork, class projects, or their own ideas to the board.
- Theme Reinforcement: Bulletin boards can be themed to match the current subject or season. This helps create a more immersive and thematic learning environment that can make lessons more engaging and memorable.
- Student Recognition: Teachers can use bulletin boards to celebrate student achievements. This could include showcasing outstanding work, displaying student of the month awards, or highlighting academic accomplishments.
- Visual Reminders: Teachers can post important reminders and guidelines on the bulletin board, helping students remember classroom rules, procedures, and expectations. Visual cues are often more effective than verbal instructions alone.
- Reference Material: Teachers can use bulletin boards to display reference materials, such as a word wall with key vocabulary words or a math facts chart. This makes it easy for students to access essential information during class.
- Communication Hub: Bulletin boards can serve as a communication hub between the teacher and parents. Teachers can post newsletters, announcements, and information about parent-teacher conferences, creating a channel for effective communication.
In summary, bulletin boards are versatile tools in the classroom that can enhance instruction, organization, and communication while also fostering student engagement and a sense of community.
