Back-to-School Reveal 2015

Blog_700x450_REVEL_V2

The day is FINALLY here to reveal everything that I’ve been working on for the last year!

There have been so many changes to Schoolgirl Style and we’ve grown tremendously!

First, we are no longer shipping out of my house (you can imagine the craziness last summer with over 100 boxes being shipped out everyday).  We also acquired a brand new shop to hold all of our inventory.  Believe me, it’s like a dream to finally operate out of a big, functional space AND the best part…we have room to grow!

IMG_2131

Currently, we are only a shipping facility and, of course, it has also become the regular hangout spot for the SGS team!

Many of you have asked if we plan to open a retail space.  This MAY be in the works.  I’ve had so many requests for this, however, I am still on the fence.  We might try “shopping days” this summer where we invite local teachers to come in and purchase items, just to see how it goes.

In addition to our new shop, I sold my house, bought a new house, moved to a new town, and started a new job!  Whew!  Complete craziness!

One more change…

A new house means a NEW photo shoot room!  If you have followed me for a while now, you may know that in my previous home, I used the kid’s playroom to create my mini classrooms.  My new house now has an awesome photo shoot space, thanks to my dad!   He spent countless hours building walls, painting, and hanging bulletin boards for me.  He created an amazing space and I can’t wait for you to see it!  The best part…it is tucked away in a corner of my house and the room is no longer swallowing up our living space.  As you can imagine, our previous home was taken over by inventory, classroom staging, and employees.  We had lost our privacy and we were constantly engulfed by classroom decor!  These BIG changes have allowed us to get some normalcy in our lives and has helped keep our sanity!  Haha!

Speaking of photo shoots…

If you are new to SGS, I plan to reveal my room themes one day at a time.  This year, the reveal will be much shorter.  We have 9 rooms to show…the first one will be up at 12:00 a.m. EST (Monday) and the reveal will end on Wednesday, April 22nd.  Please let me know in the comment section below OR through email (schoolgirlstyle@gmail.com) if you have ideas to make it better for next year.  I’m wondering if you would like it earlier?  Maybe a preview of the themes?  I would like to accomodate YOU, so constructive criticism is always appreciated!

Okay.  Okay.  Enough talking…it’s time to get to the nitty gritty!

Blog_700x450_NEWShop_V2

I wanted our shop to have a cleaner look AND I wanted it to be easier to navigate.  So, Lauren at Restored 316 Designs, gave me a cute, little update!  Of course, nothing can ever go smoothly (we literally finished this about five hours ago).   When we made the switch, the product listings became a little wonky, picture sizes are off, and parts of the descriptions were lost.  I’m sitting here having a slight “freak out” moment knowing that all of you are going to see this…and it’s not perfect…at least, not YET.  We are working away at this right now and fixing all of the issues.  Ugh.

Blog_700x450_Easy

We’ve listened!!!  At Schoolgirl Style, I take great pride in my printable decor.  I currently use a program to edit the files that leave the printables looking crisp and vibrant after you’ve printed them.  I never wanted to compromise the quality of my products by using an alternate way to edit, however, I received emails from customers explaining that the editing process was difficult for some.  Several people have asked that I create my collections in Power Point for easy editing.  After much consideration, I made the decision to do it.  When you purchase a new SGS collection, you will NOW have the option of choosing the original editing process OR you can edit in Power Point.  This will make your life SO much easier!  Whew!

Blog_700x450_Printed

You don’t have access to a color printer?  NO PROBLEM!  You don’t have time to print your SGS collection?  NO PROBLEM!

We can do the printing for you!

We have a new, fancy shmancy, commercial printer that will give you a high quality printable at a reasonable price!

You now have the option to purchase copies of any SGS printable and we will ship it right to your front door!

Again…just trying to make your life easier!

Blog_700x450_Planners

My personal planner is from A Modern Teacher…and I LOVE it!  I loved it so much that I asked April to create planners to coordinate with all of my collections!  You will now have the option to purchase a planner from A Modern Teacher right in the SGS shop…and we can print it for you!

We are making your life easier by avoiding multiple check-out processes.  You will be able to purchase everything you need in one simple step.

By the way, I checked out April’s planners and they are stunning!  I know you are dying to see it…I will reveal a planner each day with my theme, so stay tuned!

Blog_700x450_Organize

We started carrying caddies last year, however, I knew you wanted more organization solutions, so I went out and found some amazing products to help you get organized!

By the way, I use each and every one of these items in my OWN classroom and I LOVE them!

SchoolgirlStyle-60

A heavy duty, high quality storage basket in multiple colors…

I use these to hold office supplies and my guided reading materials.  Each basket is labeled by reading level…an easy way to keep my guided reading books separated and organized!

SchoolgirlStyle-34

We are calling this “The Wavy Tote.”  I use these in my classroom as individual book baskets for my students.  I also have five of these designated for each day of the week…I fill them in advance with my lessons for each particular day.  This keeps me super organized and lessons are easily accessible.

yellow file folder box

I use these “Get Organized” file boxes for SO many things in my classroom!  When I showed my classroom on my blog and on Facebook, I was shocked that someone noticed these on the counter and asked about them!  I use these for my student files,  I also use these to hold my writing folders and their handwriting books.  I absolutely LOVE these and think they are a classroom “must have!”

*Each file box comes with two black handles that are easily removable.

SchoolgirlStyle-122

These are our NEW “Jelly Totes!”  Oh my goodness…I LOVE these so much!  I use every size in my classroom.  The small totes are pefect for individual supply totes for your students and/or office supplies.  The middle size is perfect for individual student book baskets and office supplies.  The large tote is big enough for ANYTHING!  I have a nice teacher bag, however, I always end up using the large tote to carry all of my papers, teacher manuals, and books home.  It isn’t too deep where I lose everything.  I just find it so much easier to carry!

First of all, I love how vibrant they are.  From a design standpoint, they bring pops of color into your room when grouped or lined up together.  Dress it up with a colorful ribbon and a pretty tag  on the handle and you’ve created an attractive way to store your classroom supplies!  As far as functionality, they are sturdy, durable, waterproof, AND your office supplies won’t fall out, unlike a basket with holes.

I’ve used these items in mutliple photo shoots…check out the numerous ways you can use these in your classroom!

Blog_700x450_MyFavs

I know that classroom decor can be overwhelming.  I want to make it as easy as possible for you.  I chose all of my favorite products from several different companies and added them to my shop!  I started with 300 items, then it expanded to 500, now we’re over 700!  We’ve been adding and adding…and the SGS girls are now getting very tired and want me to STOP!

I think I’m done….for awhile, anyways.

So….I’m sure you are wondering what all of these products are!

Here we go!

This post is so full of great news & with the end of the school year approaching, the timing couldn’t be more perfect! I purchased a set from you last year (I ♥ School) and can’t wait to see what else I can add to it. Thank you Melanie! What an exciting year you’ve had 🙂 Jen

I would LOVE if you would give us a preview of what is to come for the themes. I’ve been (NOT SO) patiently waiting to see what you have up your sleeve. There’s only 30 more school days for us and I always start “planning” for the next school year about now.

I’m not sure I can handle waiting — I got up FIRST thing this morning and immediately logged onto your webpage to see what was now available for new themes! 😉

Thank you for your WONDERFUL work!

    • SchoolgirlStyle says

Hi Vicki! Thanks so much for the feedback. I’ve had some debates about previews and launching dates, so this is good to know! ~Melanie

So much good news! I love all of the ideas you have incorporated! Everything in one place to buy from my favorite teacher, printed materials, I just keep thinking that THIS is the solution I need to get ready for next year!

Question: Will the planners be released in your old collections as well?

Thank you for all you do for us!

I am SO excited to see the reveal of each of the new themes and how your new photography space looks! I would love to see a preview of each one before the BIG reveal–even if it was just a color palette! I am so truly thrilled about the printing services and all the new predicts you have to offer! It is such a relief when you explain your new products and let us know that YOU use them in your classroom and they are sturdy and will last with everyday kid use! I used your birds and owls theme last year, but there might need to be a change with the new themes coming out! 🙂

    • SchoolgirlStyle says

These are great ideas, Breanna! Thank you so much for your feedback! I really like the idea of previewing color palettes. :):):)

Oh. My. Word. SO excited!!! I used your Dog theme last year and your Owls and Birds theme this year. I can’t wait to see what new themes you have come up with for next year! I love love love how you make it so simple for us to have a beautiful coordinated classroom! And dang it, now that I’ve seen all the new organization items I’m going to need to buy some in every color! Thank you!

  10. Jamie says

Is it crazy that I am getting excited about your products and I’m not currently a teacher?!
I was a elementary school teacher before I had my boys. I plan to go back when my youngest is in school. I definitely plan to visit your site once I’m teaching again.

  11. Liz says

You are amazing! I love your items and cannot wait for all of the reveals, eek, so exciting!!

  12. Rosa Self says

Wow! You are truly amazing and an inspiration to all! I can’t wait to see your newly creative classroom decor. I’ve gotten SO many compliments on my Monkey Theme classroom and I owe it all to you. Thanks for the inspiration….it makes my life so much easier:)

  13. Rebecca says

I’m very excited (I’m another who loves to start thinking toward next year as this old year is closing out) for the reveals, but I would love it if you would have an earlier time instead of midnight. My body stays on teacher schedule, and I can’t stay up that late on a school night. 😛

Anxiously waiting to see what your new plans are! 🙂

  14. Tammy Hill says

I love your style, supplies, and themes! Can’t wait to see the new ones and love that they come out one at a time. I get overwhelmed with too much at once! 🙂 I am not a classroom teacher anymore, I am a Reading Recovery teacher now, but I am blessed enough to have a full size classroom to decorate. With all your great themes I need more than one room! Thanks for all your hard work. Blessings for your new teaching job as well.

  15. Lauri says

As a fellow Michigander, I’d love to shop your store in person. I will be looking to see if this is an option in the future. 🙂

  16. Tricia says

I love your classrooms, unfortunately my class looks nothing like the beautiful ones you create. Why are you not in Scotland?

  17. Shelley Marangoni says

I would love to have a preview of the themes earlier! I too have been waiting (not as patiently) as I should!!! I like to plan out next year and have the opportunity to start laminating and using the overhead for patterns now…. so I could walk in and have the joy of decorating next year. Somehow I always end up still needing to trace and laminate in August so I decorate with the stress of will I get it all done instead of if it was ready and waiting for me to begin from the day I walk in! Cant wait for the new themes!!! So excited!

  18. Sarah says

Wow! I am just so excited for you and the success of your business! I love the joy and life you bring to the classroom! : ) I am so excited to see pictures of everything! Congratulations!!!!

  19. Ashley Tuthill says

Thank you so much for your hard work. I am so excited for the product reveals! I can’t wait to pick out my theme for next year. I love how genuine and honest you are about your products and the way you utilize them in your classroom. I can’t wait to see all of the new products! Congrats on all of the exciting moments for your business so far!

  20. brittney says

After seeing all the AMAZING classrooms, I want to suggest maybe a candy/candy shop theme? it just popped into my head the other day bit is wanted to wait until they were all revealed. I can’t even imagine how adorable a candy theme would be if it was designed by you. Just a thought. 🙂 YOU’RE AWESOME!!!

  21. traci says

Cannot wait!! Love my Dog Dayz collection. Best thing I ever did for me and my students. I don’t mind being at work when I walk into a colorful, organized classroom.

    I LOVE SCHOOLGIRL STYLE!!
