Happy June, friends! So many exciting things happening in the Schoolgirl Style world right now! Like the opening of our FIRST EVER RETAIL STORE — I’d love for you to come visit me this SUMMER! See previous post for ALL-THE-DETAILS!
And of course, summer-time means classroom-makeover-time for SGS! I’ve got TWO coming up for this summer and I am so excited! YAY! BUT I wanted to take a moment and highlight a makeover that I did back in the summer of 2019. This makeover was the product of a contest and I partnered with Carson Dellosa and Lakeshore to make it all happen! The recipient was the ever-so-darling Katherine, and the theme used for this makeover was the Hello Sunshine collection.
To say rainbows are my favorite is an understatement, and this collection is the epitome of sunshine and happiness! The bright colors and elements of rainbows, clouds, sunshines, and rain clouds just made this makeover all-the-things-of-delight! ATTENTION! If this collection speaks to your teacher heart, I am linking EVERYTHING. Let’s get started!
First up, my favorite part of the makeover – I took the digital wallpaper and transformed the corner wall of Katherine’s command center. I enlarged the wallpaper to 36″x48″ at a local print shop and used mavalus tape to adhere it to the wall and VOILA! The colors are everything and the horizontal stripes just melt me.
Fancy fans always add texture and dimension to classroom walls! And in this makeover they added the perfect amount of whimsey! In most of my makeovers I like to ‘dress them up’ by adding a cut-out to the center – ahh doesn’t it just make you smile! Throughout this makeover I used pom cut-outs and sunshine cut-outs. {Looking to add more dimension and pops-of-fun? I have Hello Sunshine coordinating lanterns, wall polka dots, and poms just waiting for YOU!}
In each of my makeovers I create a special space for the teacher. In Katherine’s room, there was this little nook that I deemed her “command center”. It was the perfect space for keeping her teacher manuals, sub plans, assessments, curriculum, and any other housekeeping procedures you might have. Organization is EVERYTHING!
And of course I added some Hello Sunshine “confetti” to the space. The Hello Sunshine Planner, notepad, and stickers added the perfect touch of personalization. For decor, I enlarged the digital wallpaper again, and lined the back of the bookshelf. I love doing this and just takes any shelving to the next level of cuteness! I also added the happiest tassel garland you ever did see, as the final finishing touch!
The “Hello Sunshine” letters pictured above were created specifically for this makeover, and went flying off the shelves as soon as the makeover launched. They are available only in UPRINT, but require no enlarging so you can easily print at home or school. I love that they took center stage in Katherine’s room and display such a positive vibe!
I have had SO MANY QUESTIONS about this sun and rainbow duo! But can’t you totally see why?! Together they make a statement on any wall, and I love how they popped on this blue wall {“Something Blue” by Sherwin Williams}! These little darlings are actually the cut-outs from this collection that I had enlarged at a print store.
The calendar for this collection is the perfect rainbow calendar! It also includes “The Season is” Chart and “The Weather is” Chart, as well as, 10 darling little raindrop cut-outs!
I say it all the time, but…. it’s all in the details! I try to be so intensional when adding verbiage to my collections. I want to integrate all the encouragement possible! The posters for this collection are no exception, displaying “Be the Nice Kid“, “Rain is Confetti in the Sky“, “The World is Your Rainbow“, and “Color the World Beautiful“. Don’t those phrases just bring a warmth to your heart!?
The borders for this collection are some of my favorites! I love how they compliment one another and are so easy to mix-n’match (even with other collections!). I’ve determined that layering borders is a teacher’s love language, and you just can’t go wrong! Throughout this makeover I used the Hello Sunshine Pom Border, the Hello Sunshine Rainbow Frame Border, the Rainbow Big Dot Foundation Border, the Hello Sunshine Foundation Border, and the Hello Sunshine Tassel Foundation Border.
I added a ton of storage to Katherine’s room! The book and binder holders coordinated beautifully and the student numbers mini cut-outs added a perfect dose of organization!
One of the focal pieces in Katherine’s room was this happy and stunning bulletin board set! “We are a Rainbow of Possibilities” sets such a tone of kindness, lending itself to a learning environment of PURE FUN and SUNSHINE! This bulletin board includes the rainbow, clouds and raindrops, so it’s an all-in-one set, ready to dress-up your bulletin board!
Katherine’s room provided flexible seating for her students, so to support her in continuing that, I brought in benches with storage from Ikea and the furniture from Lakeshore. The orange arch and cushion stools added such a fun pop of color! Furniture similar can be found here.
And once again, beautiful, coordinating pillows for the win! I used my Hello Sunshine coordinating papers + a little visit to www.zazzle.com. Once you purchase the coordinating papers, upload the PDF’s to Zazzle, and have all the fun creating your customized pillows that match you classroom decor!
Some much organization goes into running a classroom, so I wanted to make sure and give Katherine plenty of storage. I added the beautiful blue storage bins to the Ikea shelving, and the rain cloud cut-outs added a pop of ‘hello sunshine’, while also providing a way to label.
I added a multitude of classroom caddies throughout the classroom. Y’all. Give me all the caddies!! Caddies are so so wonderful, especially in a flex-seating classroom. It easily allows students to move their supplies with them, throughout the room! I added “sprinkles” of the collection within the caddies by using the library pockets to hold the crayons, and tin cans with the sunshine cut-outs so caddies could be numbered/labeled! {pro tip: breathe some life into those purposeful yet drab tin cans by wrapping them in border! They will forever thank you!}
Within every classroom makeover I love to create a space for student work, and I always love how it turns out! I do this by using the coordinating papers and the nameplates. I enlarge the paper to 11″x17″ and then glue the nameplate to the bottom. For this student work display, I wanted to add a little dimension. I printed the papers as 8.5″x11″, then glued each to the center. This step is totally optional! But definitely adds depth!
The word wall, of course, continues to carry the lovely and happy rainbow theme! One of my favorite ways to organize a word wall is pictured above! Simply hole-punch your word wall words and put them on a ring, then hang them on a hook under the letter the belong! This makes it so students can still access words, while organizing your classroom like a queen!
The Hello Sunshine cut-outs are wonderful for labeling and numbering, but I also created Hello Sunshine labels! These are great for book bins and organizing your classroom library. And the rainbow tassel detail on these labels just makes me smile!
I’m ending this fun classroom makeover walk-through with some ever-so-popular and oh-so-darling elements! The Hello Sunshine Welcome Bulletin Board Set is simple and beautiful, and will add that perfect pop of rainbow to any wall, bulletin board or door!
One of my favorite ways to add a little love to windows is by creating a DIY valance. Just use a piece of fadeless bulletin board paper, fold over a curtain rod, staple the ends together, then trim the outside bottom with border! In this makeover I used the Hello Sunshine Tassel Foundation Border and I ADORE!
Last but not least, the Sunshine Door Topper. Oh those door toppers just have a way of making my heart go pitter-patter! This little darling is 36″ across, and will fit perfectly on top of most doors. The best way to get this printed is to take to a local printer such as Staples or Office Max and have them print this. For a cost effective strategy, ask for it to be printed on blueprint paper. Door toppers are just THE BEST!
Happy decorating, friends!
XOXO
Melanie
