Chalkboard and Polka Dots

Chalkboard and Polka Dot classroom theme by Schoolgirl Style

Chalkboard and Polka Dot Inspiration:  Two years ago, I created the first chalkboard classroom decor collection!  There wasn’t anything on the market like it.  I was SO proud and so excited to offer this classroom classic!  Fast forward to now, there are several chalkboard collections on the market that you could choose from, however, none of them are a traditional black and white theme.  Black and white is SO simple, SO classic, and goes with EVERYTHING!   I still love that first collection (Chalkboard Charm), but I wanted to give you MORE!   I created pieces in this collection that you can’t find anywhere else.  In addition, there is a big BONUS with this collection…POLKA DOTS!  Essentially, you are buying two collections for the price of one.  Originally, I planned to separate them, but after some thinking, I wanted you to have the option to mix and match the two themes!

Are you afraid of ink costs?  Printing out a Schoolgirl Style collection would be the same price, and most likely cheaper, than purchasing a pre-made set in a store, however,  did you know that a black and white set is significantly less expensive?  You are getting an AMAZING value with this collection.  If you are on a budget, there is also another way you can cut costs…photo copy the collection.  Yep, I’m serious.  My friend bought my chalkboard AND polka dot collection a couple years ago and she was on a very strict budget, so she printed out one piece of each item she liked, then photo copied them!  You would have never guessed it!  She used regular copy paper, then laminated each one for durability.

This collection is truly a great investment and it will never go out of style!

When I tell you that it literally goes with EVERYTHING…I wanted to show you what I mean.  When you scroll through the pictures, you will see that I staged this room SIX different ways!  I used different color combos and cutouts to create six very different looks.  You can give yourself a room makeover year after year by changing the paper and border.  This collection is SO fun and SO versatile!

Enjoy the tour!

Chalkboard pennant letters are included in the set, so you can customize banners for your classroom…

Both chalkboard numbers and letters are included…

Not only do you get pennant letters, but you also get round chalkboard letters to create bulletin boards or anything else you can dream up!

This is a 19 inch daisy with a 15 inch pom in the center!  So cute!

If you’ve followed the reveal all week, you noticed my new fancy labels in five different styles.  You get them in both the chalkboard and polka dot patterns…

These chalkboard letters are perfect to use as large monograms (or an alphabet line)…create a statement by displaying words in empty spaces around your classroom!

The blue baskets are now being sold in the SGS Shop!

There are so many color combinations that you can come up with!  This particular combination was chosen by my girlfriends.  As I was decorating (I started the room with just a kelly green, black, and white theme), I decided that I wanted to try another color with it.  I was torn between this royal blue or hot pink.  I decided to send a picture to all of my friends for their opinion (for the record, I wanted hot pink).  All of them (besides me and one other girl), chose the blue.  So, BLUE it was!

More multipurpose baskets in green…

Did you notice these cute locker tags in the lower right hand corner?  My graphic designer drew these by hand!  We created these with a ton of inspirational words…perfect to tie around pencils, attach to baskets, display on your desk, etc.

Top off your design with pretty poms, lanterns, or daisies from Schoolgirl Style!

I cut a 14 inch green pom and hot glued it to the center of a large black daisy!  I love how it looks like a pretty flower hanging from your ceiling.

Here are some more of our inspirational tags.  I LOVE THEM!

I combined both the chalkboard and polka dot pennants for an adorable pennant banner!

This collection comes with two complete stationary sets…one in chalkboard and the other in polka dot!

Caddies and “Get Organized” totes are now available in the SGS Shop!

I created large table signs to add to our paper daisies or hang them above tables or centers.  Again, my graphic designer drew these and they turned out amazing!

Create an alphabet line with the letters or make a customized pennant banner!

Ready for the next combination?

Hot pink, Orange, Yellow, and Black

Here are our round table signs in polka dots…

This color combo is stunning!

Look how I embellished our Jelly Totes?!?!  I added a cute inspirational tag to each one AND a chalkboard number…

A close up…

How about using chalkboard and polka dots to create the CUTEST ladybug theme!

Change out your border and baskets to change your theme to something completely different!

Add a cute ladybug cutout from the SGS Shop!

It really doesn’t get any cuter than this!  AHHHH!  LOVE this!

Use wooden skewers to attach a ladybug cutout.  Use the sticks in cans or cute flower arrangements throughout your classroom!

The borders can be purchased in the SGS Shop!!!

This has to be one of my very favorite border combinations EVER!  I love the yellow with the big, jumbo polka dots!

More mulipurpose baskets!  These are available in the SGS Shop!

The desk is from Pottery Barn Teen and the chair is from The Land of Nod.

Gold bow clips from Kate Spade and the gold, black polka dot, and hot pink poms from Schoolgirl Style

Washi tape is available in the SGS Shop…

Our new 2015 collections all come with calendar sets!  Each set has a calendar grid, calendar numbers and special occasion pieces, bulletin board accents, Days of the Week poster, and 12 month headers.  I saved the calendar file to a thumb drive, took it to Staples and had them print each piece out on an 18 x24 sheet of paper.  Laminate for durability, then use Velcro to attach each piece to your calendar.

This particular collection comes with TWO calendars!  You get the polka dot calendar set and you also get a really cute chalkboard calendar as well!  Choose your favorite one for your classroom OR use BOTH!

How adorable are these dalmations?  You can purchase these cutouts in the SGS Shop!

Turquoise and black…one of my favorite color combinations!

One last idea…

A black and white color scheme can be changed seasonally!  Look at how I changed the border out and added a few accessories to decorate for Spring!

  1. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the orange, hot pink, and yellow with the black and white!! Such happy colors that look amazing together!! I’m loving all the totes, baskets, and caddies that come in so many colors. You are making this so hard to choose a new theme! haha!

    WILD About First Grade!

  2. I think my favorite part of this collection is how versatile it is. Love all the color combinations. Perfect for those teachers wanting a classic look and will work in any classroom. Just lovely. <3

  3. Love this one! I got excited when I saw the first color combo. Reminds me of some birds in New Zealand that I want to decorate my classroom around when I go back to teaching next year. This set would get me started of right!

  4. I love this chalkboard and polka-dot set. I always use a blue/green theme. It reminds me of the ocean, and being a Florida girl, it always reminds me of peace and serenity.

  5. Love all your new themes! In the orange, pink, and yellow combo, there is a picture of the totes in two different sizes. Could you tell me which sizes they are? The ones on top of the shelf have some school supplies, and the ones in the shelves have a border around them with a fancy label in the front. Thank you!!

  6. I was wondering if you could make a coupon for Teacher Appreciation Week. I’m a PTSA mom, and while I wish we had enough money to give each teacher an actual gift card, we just can’t. But we could print out a coupon for them to use when they come to your shop! It would drive business and awareness your way, too! :o)

  7. I really like the chalkboard and polka dots collection but can’t seem to find the right links to buy the word wall banners and chalkboard letters. Please help! They would go great with my Chalkboard and sports theme next year!

    • NM!!!!! Totally found it! I was looking under “Shop By Theme” Instead of “Shop by Collection” ! Thanks!

  8. I tried looking of ratios on your TPT but couldn’t find it and didn’t see a link on your website, can you post the link to it? Thank you! (:

  9. I just recently purchased this collection. How do you get the letters in the circular pieces?
    I’m really new to this.

    • Cut the circles out, then you can use a glue dot to adhere it to the pennant. 🙂 Hope that helps!

  10. Hello,

Love the collection… just wondering if you have any tips to adhering the tissue flower poms to the the tissue fans…. Thanks so much… Kelly
