Introducing…RAINBOW CHALKBOARD!
This is actually an older theme, just revamped a bit. Some of you might remember, my very first year of Schoolgirl Style, I created this beautiful rainbow inspired classroom…
You can NEVER forget this photo from the collection…Ahhhh! Don’t you LOVE these colors?!? This photo was pinned over and over.
SOOO BEAUTIFUL!
My Rainbow Collection was very popular and so many of you loved it!
See Rainbow post HERE:
I decided to bring this collection back, but wanted to give it an updated look. I brightened the stripes for a more vibrant look AND paired it with the classic black chalkboard.
I knew that the colors would POP against that black chalkboard and it would make a stunning classroom design. My friend, Maria from Kinder-Craze loved the idea too!
If you aren’t familiar with Maria, Maria is a teacher blogger and a fellow Michigander! When we found out that we didn’t live too far away from one another, we decided to meet every now and then for much needed “girl time!” We can talk for hours and we have so much in common with our blogs.
During one of our meet-ups, Maria explained that her school had just bought a new building and she would be moving into a new classroom the following year. With a new year, new students, and a new school ahead of her, Maria was ready for a new classroom design! We decided to join forces to create her dream Kindergarten classroom!
After giving her several design options, she was sold on Rainbow Chalkboard! I realized that this would be the perfect collection for her personality. Maria loves to be surrounded by bright colors, especially yellow, which happens to be her very favorite color! There was one catch though…there would be black chalkboard in this design and this posed a huge problem with Maria.
For most people, this was a GOOD thing. For Maria, it was a big risk. Maria was terrified about adding black to her room! She adores bright colors and she was scared that this would make her room look too dark. I can vividly remember one of our conversations when I told her to just trust me on this…I knew it would be FABULOUS!!!
Well, she did trust me and her room is amazing. I mean seriously amazing.
Take a look…

I had the idea to incorporate children silhouettes throughout her entire classroom. I knew this would would look great with the black chalkboard. I wanted the room to feel like an environment where children are celebrated… I certainly think we accomplished that!
I’ve had this silhouette idea floating around in my head for years and knew this would be the perfect collection to showcase it. Everything I had envisioned, Maria executed with perfection.
Now, most of you might think that I decorated Maria’s room. I didn’t. This was Maria’s hard work completely. Maria and I had several meetings where I guided her with decisions, along with lots of text messages, but she did all of the hard labor herself. Maria also had great ideas of her own and between the two of us, I think the end result was FANTASTIC!
I am so happy that Maria ended up stepping out of her comfort zone and added the black. The black highlights the bright colors and gives her room nice definition. I’m also sure Maria would tell you that she’s happy about the black chalkboard too!
The end result makes me giddy with excitement! I am so proud of Maria for all of her hard work and dedication to this project. Her students now have an amazing classroom that they call “home” day after day.

I feel like my creativity has been slammed, Fire marshal went through our school and told us nothing hanging from the ceiling! The bad news just keeps coming.
I am so madly in LOVE with this collection! You were SO right about the black! The contrast is amazing. We make a great team and I can’t wait to team up for our next project 🙂
Always looks soooo pretty.

I love this room! Could you please tell me where the rainbow striped border is from?
Hi Rochelle!
Maria just printed out the rainbow paper and cut it to fit the top of her classroom blinds. It appears to be border, but it really isn’t. 🙂 Hope that helps! 🙂 ~Melanie
I LOVE this collection! I love the colors, but I have so many red tubs and things that would be expensive to replace. I wish you could do this same chalkboard collection using the colors that are in the learn colorfully collection!!! Just Saying!!!!
I’m with Michelle. I have bought your silhouettes, but I already have the primary colors invested in my room. I need the rainbow chalkboard in primary colors. PLEASE!
Hi!
I am moving to a new school this upcoming year. My new school is much older than my other one, and I was charmingly shocked to see that they still have chalkboards. So this theme seems perfect. However, I will be teaching 4th grade. Do you have some quick suggestions for how to modify this style for upper grades? I love the silhouettes but think they may be a bit too young for my students. I do love the concept though. Suggestions are appreciated!
Can the silhouettes be resized?
Charla…Yes!:)
SO PRETTY!!
I just brought it! 🙂
Hi can you just purchase the children silhouettes? I have your owl theme in my room but I love these little children!!
Thank you
Kristina

How did you get the black paper to look “chalky”?
It prints out that way.:)
