Out of all my themes that I created, I think this one reflects my personality the most. I love the bright colors, the “beachy” vibe, and the pineapples. Yes. For some strange reason, I am drawn to those pineapples! This room makes me happy. I could walk into this room everyday of my teaching career and feel happy. That’s what decorating is all about. Finding something that makes you feel good every time you look at it. You practically live in your classroom – surround yourself with colors that you LOVE!
This room was created with my daughter in mind. Her 4th birthday was coming up and I had to think of a cute party theme for her. Knowing that I didn’t have a lot of time to decorate, I had to combine a classroom theme with her birthday party. I pictured little hula skirts, cupcakes with tropical flowers, balloons in pinks and oranges, and pretty leis. She wore the cutest little outfit with a pretty hibiscus flower in her hair. The party was lots of fun!

Okay…now for the room! Oh… soooo fun!
One of my favorite parts of the room! I’ve had a beach umbrella in my room for several years. I poured Plaster into a bucket to keep the umbrella from falling over. The perfect Reading Center!
The lanterns can be purchased in the Schoolgirl Style Shop!
Aloha door sign…
Gotta LOVE the pineapples!
Prints were created to coordinate with the luau theme.
Dollar Tree has the best selection of tropical flowers. I was obsessed. Every time I drove by a Dollar Tree store, I would stop and pick up more and more tropical flowers! This is one my favorite details of the room!
Parrot was purchased at Dollar Tree!
Out of all the printable items I have created, this is my favorite! I love the bright colors and the palm tree. I cold stare at this forever!
The flamingos are super cute in this room! They add a whimsical element to the design. LOVE these!
Leis are draped everywhere! This is an important detail to the room!
Table signs…
Nameplates come in six different colors!
More pineapples!
I created the pineapple tags to use as nametags, to use in pocket charts, centers, or for your lunch count/attendance.
Beach pails are really inexpensive and PERFECT to hold your supplies. I love all of the colors that they come in!

I am attracted to vintage Hawaii items. I had to use this image in my designs! LOVE this!
If you noticed, I use natural colored luau grass table skirts, a natural colored umbrella, and a natural colored tablecloth. There were so many bright colors in the room, I knew that I needed to neutralize the space, otherwise there would be TOO much color! I really love the balance.
I bought this surfboard from Oriental Trading. The original design didn’t coordinate with my room, so I painted it! I chose “Surfer Blue” from Behr. I used painters tape to make the white stripe down the center. Last, I hot glued a green ribbon down the center to add a dash of color!
I purchased this beach chair for only $14 from Home Depot!
I I used an EK Success round circle punch for these adorable tags. You can purchase it from Amazon.com.
LOVE the pennant banners!
I found the coolest fadeless paper from Amazon.com in this tropical print. I cut it in half to make curtains, then surrounded the bottom half of my room with the sand and water portion.

Melanie,
This is my favorite of all your themes. I have been so excited for you to make it! I started printing out your printables this morning and can’t wait to finish using the rest to tie my luau themed classroom together! This is absolutely fabulous! I love it all!!
My husband and I had a conversation earlier today about how much time I’ve spent working in my room and I told him that I want the space that I will be spending most of my day in to be a bright, fun, and happy space. You are so right when you say we need to surround ourselves with colors that we love. It just makes sense to surround yourself with things that make you happy!

Melanie,
Another cute theme! The kids friends down the road did a Luau themed b-day party on the last day of school. They had these 2 posters of surfters (one for boys and one for girls) with a hole cut out to have the kid put his/her face in for a photo opp … how fun would that be to have in this classroom and then “surfin’ through 1st grade” (or whatever grade it might be) somehow added to the surfer photo prop? They got them at a stored call “Deals”. It’s like a dollar store, but there are more than just dollar items there. I will try to send you a pic of each to show you what they look like!
Absolutely adorable…starting with your precious daughter and all the way through every picture! I am so excited to get started on my room and incorporate what you have done with the beach theme I already have started! Sixth graders can be a tough group to please, but I have a feeling they are going to LOVE the final product! Great Job Melanie!
So fun – so you! Your daughter is precious and seems excited by her birthday theme. Another home run.
Adorable daughter and Beautiful room! Looks like sunshine! I bought those mini caddies from Target and love them! I so look forward to your rooms!!
Looks fabulous.

I’ve already started this theme – and about jumped out of my chair when I saw this on PInterest! Off to see your shop!

I think that this is one of my favorites! Love it! It is a perfect theme for the teachers from the Midwest…a perfect escape from a cold, endless winter!
Maybe you are drawn to the pineapples because they are Hawaii’s symbol of hospitality which seems befitting for you as the spaces you create are so inviting! LOVE the very fun and happy Luau theme you put together here. You can definitely feel the HI sunshine. And thanks for the shout out for Creative Teaching Press too! 🙂
I have gotten so many wonderful comments about the luau theme that I did this school year. Even though this has been a difficult year the bright colors and thoughts of the beach have made all the difference. Thanks for everything!!!!!
Thanks so much for sharing that, Amy! That means a lot. If I’ve helped you out even a little bit, it makes this job worth it. xoxo
I love this theme! I’m doing this for my first grade room this year and I plan on buying Many of your items to enhance my theme! Do you have any ideas of how I could Make large bulletin board letters using your pattern and style to act as Letter heading for my bulletin boards? For example A template so I can type in letters the size of a normal bulletin board letter to Spell out titles like “Catch the wave to first grade?” I appreciate any feedback you would have! Again wonderful job and Thank you for the classroom inspiration!!
Hi Karis!
The Luau Aloha Banner would be perfect for that!
I have had a luau theme in my room for a few years. I get a lot of compliments on it. I have never been happy with my name tags and labels in my room. I just ordered the complete set from you and I am very excited to implement it all in my room. Thank you so much for the great pictures and the option to buy!! I’m really excited to set my room up…and it’s only June!!! Thank you!
I love this theme! Are there options with fonts, or is it all the scroll type? Thank you!
Most labels are editable. 🙂
